It's like...Deja Vu! It's like...deja Vu! It's like....Deja vu!
www.sadkermit.com
( Yes, this site was run last week, but I got the URL wrong, so here it is again. )
Hurt is a great song. You probably know the NIN original and the Cash remake, but have you heard the Kermit the Frog version? Have you seen the poignant video that chronicles his battles with addiction following the death of Jim Henson and his break up with Miss Piggy? If not, move fast. Disney will shut this down as soon as they finish poking their lawyers with pointy sticks to make them meaner. Of course, they'll never be able to make it go away completely, but you might be stuck watching a crappy, tiny, lowres version on YouTube instead of this nice bandwidth-sucking ( downloadable! ) large one.
You will entertain a large group of people ( in bed )
www.badcookie.com
For those times when you really want a fortune cookie, but don't want to order Chinese delivery, the Internets gives you BadCookie.com . These aren't the typical insipid fortune cookies, which, by the way, rarely have an actual fortune in them, but instead have some silly aphorism. They have 'fortunes' of doom and despair. Granted, they weren't quite as dark as I hoped. I clicked for awhile but was never granted something like 'You will die a slow, painful death from cancer—alone' or 'This meal contained Chinese wheat gluten. So sorry. Kiss your kidneys goodbye.'
Well, at least the grafitti is cool...
www.99rooms.com
I waded through all 99 rooms of this site. Unfortunately, the repetitive ( and at times tedious ) nature of the 'discovery' and the designer's inexplicable decision to turn the cursor into a tiny white arrow ( difficult to see against the concrete walls of the rooms ) made it a bit of a tough slog. Still, although there seems to be an inordinate interest in urination, the grafitti artwork is pretty slick. Perhaps the piss-angle is a German thing, I dunno. I recommend you take advantage of the space bar, which will drop down thumbnails and allow you to move around without being forced to find the 'interaction.'
Jagged lady hump
www.youtube.com ( search 'morrisette my humps' )
Video has become the killer app of the Internets, but normally I won't refer you to a video unless it has a whole site of interesting stuff built around it ( like SadKermit above ) . However, I found this video of Alanis Morrisette reworking Lady Hump too good to not pass on. She slows things down and puts her signature style on the song, which turns out to actually have quite a pretty melody. But the lyrics and the video are in stark contrast to the music, and the juxtaposition really highlights just how stupid the lyrics are. I cackled, but damn if the song wasn't stuck in my head afterwards.
