"I had actually read about the British show and the character of Nathan. And I said, 'They should do an American version. I'd be perfect for that.' This was one of the scripts that I felt, I should do this part. It's so obvious." ... Actor Randy Harrison ( Justin on Queer As Folk ) to writer Eric Meers of the Advocate Sept. 17 about his reaction to first reading the QAF script.
"While it's great to be an out actor, I never really have any goals of activism. All my goals are as an actor...to do different kinds of work. I sleep with men, I have very little sense of being part of the community of homosexual people, for whatever reason. I have a group of six friends, two of whom are gay. I associate the gay community with a subset of the gay community that I'm not a part of." ... Harrison replying to being the "face of young gay America" to The Advocate.
Randy Harrison ( left ) and Bill O'Reilly in The Advocate.
"I actually have more respect for people who are in the closet. You end up exposing so much of yourself because you have to talk about your sexual life. You shouldn't have to talk about it. I don't like people who lie. But if you don't talk about it, it's like you're too pussy to talk about it, which I didn't want to be. I would say, 'Do it quickly and quietly at the beginning of your career'" ... Harrison commenting on whether he'd advise closeted actor friends to come out.
"I hope that they are finding satisfaction. I'm in no way making a judgment. I know it doesn't make me happy. [ But ] I wonder what kind of lives they will have built for themselves when they turn 45 and can't really have any connection with people because they are so used to fleeting sexual ... I don't know, I don't know." ... Harrison when asked how he feels when he sees friends living out some of the drug use and casual sex that his character Justin does on TV.
"America's religious right does not tolerate those they believe to be ideologically impure, and that's why they're bound to be a bit upset with FOX TV superstar Bill O'Reilly. O'Reilly is the host of The O'Reilly Factor, a no-holds- barred slugfest of ideas that regularly lambastes feminists, Democrats, the ACLU and anyone else ( usually on the left ) who ticks the Irish-Catholic O'Reilly off on a given day. Gays and lesbians are a particular target of the hit show, getting more than their fair share of negative air time, and that's why O'Reilly's upcoming interview in America's premiere gay magazine, The Advocate, is raising eyebrows even before its publication." ... John Aravosis on pundit Bill O'Reilly at About.com .
"O'Reilly not only reiterates his previous support for gay adoption, but he goes on to call the U.S. military 'homophobic' ( though he still thinks the gay ban is necessary ) , says that gays should have the right to visit their same-sex spouses in the hospital ( in many locales they cannot ) , thinks every state should have laws protecting gays and lesbians from discrimination in the workplace ( only 12 states currently do ) , and opposes the repeal of a gay rights ordinance in Florida's Miami-Dade County ( the hotly-contested repeal measure is on the ballot Sept. 10 ) . That's enough right there to make the religious right grab for a Maalox. But there's more. On gay marriage, one of the hot-button religious-right issues, O'Reilly starts by telling Giltz that he opposes it, then when pushed by the reporter, finally concedes: 'Look, I couldn't care less, to tell you the truth ... You want to get married? Knock yourself out. Go to Vegas; have a good time ... If you can get that changed, I'm not going to jump up and down and say I think it's wrong, because I don't.'" ... John Aravosis.
"The wonderful thing about women's music is that it was the strongest, most powerful force for lesbians in the United States next to softball. The festivals brought lesbians together and the music was at the heart of that experience." ... Lesbian music icon Alix Dobkin in the Aug. 18 NY Times Sunday Magazine article, "Queer As Folk.".
"I think he [ Eminem ] is really clever, but he is just a wanker. He is angry about some shit, man. ... He is a brat. He probably needs like three years of therapy and big, hot cock up his ass. Maybe Dr. Dre can do it." ... Boy George to the Houston Voice, Aug. 9.
"I'm coming over and fuck Eminem to sort him out. He probably has a small dick. I'd like to fuck him anyway. Tie him up. Fuck him and hear him moan: 'Fag, do it again/Fag, do it again/Yo, Eminem.'" ... Boy George to the Houston Voice.
"I think that speaking as a gay man living with HIV, I have a responsibility to disclose my HIV-positive status before having sex with another gay man. I think the responsibility that I take in revealing that I'm HIV-positive is something all people with AIDS should engage in when having sex. I think we need a lot more personal responsibility when talking about HIV prevention." ... San Francisco activist Michael Petrelis on Fox News' O'Reilly Factor, Aug. 12.
"It's offensive, it's foolish, it's counterproductive, and it backlashes against you." ... Bill O'Reilly to The Advocate about Gay Pride Parades, Sept. 17.
"But the basis tenet is, I want you to have a good life. It's easier to have a good life if nobody knows what your sexual proclivities are...hetero or homosexual or whatever...so keep it quiet unless you absolutely have to define it. And if you have to define it, make sure you have a good lawyer standing there giving you good advice." ... O'Reilly to The Advocate.
"Look, society doesn't have the right to judge what you do behind closed doors. They simply don't. It's wrong, but they will do it. They will do it. If you want that judgement raining down on your head, then go out dressed like Dolly Parton. If you want to live the life where you have the most options you can have...which is really the benefit of America, options...shut up. Shut up. Have a good time. Carve a good life out for yourself. Find a good companion. But nobody has the right to know what you do in your private life." ... O'Reilly.
"Give me a frigging break. I've been a frigging diva for 40 frigging years. This is the last time I'm going to do this." ... Cher at a concert in Las Vegas after fans booed when she said it was her last tour, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times, Aug. 13.
