At a Jan. 23 press conference at the Queer Lounge in Park City, Utah, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation ( GLAAD ) announced the nominees for its 17th Annual GLAAD Media Awards. Among the nominees were films ( Brokeback Mountain, Transamerica and Capote ) , TV series ( Out of Practice, The Amazing Race 7 and Sin Fronteras ) and publications ( USA Today ) .
In addition to 113 nominees in 25 categories and 45 Spanish-language nominees in 15 categories, GLAAD also announced that it will present a Special Recognition award to Bright Eyes and John Cameron Mitchell for including gay couples in the music video for the hit single First Day of My Life.
In the competitive categories, cable networks led the way with 16 nominations, with the broadcast networks following with 13 nominees. Showtime came away with four nominations, while NBC led broadcast networks with five nominees.
For the second consecutive year, the GLAAD Media Awards will be televised on Logo, MTV Networks' cable channel for the LGBTA community. However, VH1 will air the program. The Logo air date for the GLAAD Media Awards is April 15 at 8 p.m. CT while VH1 air date is April 16 at 10 p.m. CT.
