Former Executive VP and Chief Development Officer to Assume New Role on July 1
Chicago — June 29, 2011 — Window to the World Communications, Inc. (WWCI), parent company of WTTW11, Chicago's premier public television station, and 98.7WFMT, Chicago's classical radio station, announced today that Greg Cameron, 53, formerly Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer, is being promoted to the post of Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the organization, effective July 1.
In his new position, Cameron will continue to oversee development efforts for the organization, and as COO, will play a more prominent role in managing day-to-day operations for WTTW and WFMT, including supervision of internal and external communications and television and radio sales.
"In the relatively brief time that Greg has been a part of our organization, he has worked tirelessly to strengthen relationships with social and philanthropic leaders and key individuals at foundations and corporations, while guiding his development team to record fundraising achievements, especially impressive in this challenging economy," said Dan Schmidt, President and CEO. "He has demonstrated a true ability to be a convener — to share the vision of our future and inspire people to want to be a part of it. I look forward to partnering with him to take us to the next level," he added.
"Every organization needs a team at the top with complementary skills," said Norman R. Bobins, Chairman of WWCI's Board of Trustees. "Greg's energy and passion for the cultural and civic life of our city resonates strongly with all of us. His unique ability to tap into the special philanthropic interests of potential funders has been invaluable. I am excited to see what more he can bring to an already exceptional leadership team, dedicated staff and committed Board," he added.
"I am honored to be asked to play an even greater role in increasing the visibility of WTTW and WFMT in Chicago's education, civic, and cultural communities, truly a challenge in our city's increasingly crowded media environment," said Cameron. "Across all of our platforms — television, fine arts radio, and our robust websites, we bring Chicagoans and a national audience quality programming -- content that makes a difference," he added.
Prior to arriving at WTTW in 2008, Cameron served as the Deputy Director and Chief Development Officer at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago for more than seven years. Previously, he held the position of Chief Development Officer, in addition to several key positions in the development office. From 1994-97, he served as the Director of Foundation and Corporate Relations at the Art Institute of Chicago, and as Development Coordinator at the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs from 1986-88.
A board member of Arts Alliance Illinois, Common Threads, the Renaissance Society at the University of Chicago, Comer Children's Hospital Friends Against AIDS, Cameron also serves on various committees, including the Young Women's Leadership Charter School (YWLCS), the Center on Halsted, The School of the Art Institute, the University of Illinois and the Chicago History Museum.
