The Illinois State Library will mark Diversity Awareness Month in October with an exhibit and a reception.
The exhibit, which will be displayed Oct. 16-Nov. 3, recognizes the 2005 inductees into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame; LGBT authors of Illinois; and LGBT families. The exhibit contains photographs and biographies of the Hall of Fame inductees, highlighting their achievements and contributions to Chicago; works of fiction and nonfiction by lesbian writers who were born in Illinois or spent a considerable amount of time in the state; and 30 photographs of LGBT families by Catherine Sikora.
The exhibit will be on display from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, in the Atrium and Illinois Authors Reading Room at the Illinois State Library, Gwendolyn Brooks Building, 300 South 2nd St., Springfield.
On Oct. 18,5:30-7:30 p.m., a reception at the Gwendolyn Brooks Building will feature Dr. Carlos T. Mock, author of Borrowing Time: A Latino Sexual Odyssey. He is recognized for his works dealing with Latino cultural awareness, AIDS and diversity.
