Opportunities for quick getaways abound in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Illinois, at destinations that are only a few hours' drive from the Chicago area. These spots are great in and of themselves, but a local fair or festival can add that extra zest of interest to a week or weekend stay. Late summer and early fall are prime times for local special events.
