C. Richard Gibson
C. Richard Gibson, known for his love of books, music, national politics and Cubs baseball, died on Dec. 7, 2006, following a long illness.
He is survived by his loving mother, Dorothy Burgess; sisters, Linda ( Jim ) Burgess of Roswell, Ga.; Cheryl ( Frank ) Sullivan of Indianapolis, Ind.; and stepbrother Bill ( Emily ) Burgess, of Arnold, Md. He was the uncle of Jim ( Angie ) Burgess, Kevin Burgess, Sgt. Denis Sullivan, Erin ( Andy ) Boldin, Rebekah ( Craig ) Weymes, Doug Sullivan, Thomas Sullivan, Lindsay Burgess, Jimmy Burgess and Anslea Boldin. He was preceded in death by his father, Clair Richard Gibson, and his niece, Jill Sullivan.
Gibson was born at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C., in 1957 and grew up in New Carrollton, Md. He earned a B.A. and M.L.S. from the University of Maryland and a law degree from George Mason University, located in Fairfax, Va.
After retiring from full-time work, Gibson devoted himself to numerous volunteer activities, including cataloging and computerizing the music collection for Windy City Performing Arts, and improving the quality of others' lives through his community outreach activities.
An accomplished singer, Gibson was happiest when performing with the Windy City Chorus and Unison.
A memorial service will be held Feb. 17 at 10 a.m. at Broadway United Methodist Church, 3344 N. Broadway. Memorial gifts may be directed to the Howard Brown Health Center, 4025 N. Sheridan Road, Chicago, IL 60613.
Terrence Van Deest
Terrence 'Terry' Van Deest, an interior designer who worked for Sears Department Stores for more than three decades, passed away Dec. 27, 2006. He was 72.
He was a longtime member of the Chicago Prime Timers ( formerly Professionals over Thirty ) who enjoyed entertaining in his home and was a generous and kind man.
He was the beloved life partner for 27 years to the late Chris De Plot and is survived by his sister, Toni Ammerman of Florida; his nephew, Mark ( Monica ) Morgan of Milwaukee; his nieces, Stacy ( David ) Erickson of Savage, Minn., and Nicole ( Jesse ) Swanson of Farmington, Minn.
A private celebration of his life will be held.

Dene Pepin
Dene R. Pepin, of Chicago, died in his home on Jan. 26. He was 54.
Pepin was born Sept. 6, 1952 in Kankakee, the son of Elmer and Irma Binder Pepin. He was a freelance hair and makeup artist for magazines, posters, ads and TV commercials. Pepin was also director of student education curriculum at Pivot Point International School of Cosmetology. He was a graduate of various institutions, including the Art Institute of Chicago and the Academy of Fine Arts. In addition, Pepin was a member of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.
He will be remembered as a generous fun-loving friend, son, brother, uncle and great-uncle as well as a profoundly talented makeup artist and well-respected professional among his colleagues.
A celebration of Pepin's life will be held Feb. 17, 1:30-2:30 p.m., at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 690 W. Belmont. A reception will follow at 3 p.m. at Nookies Tree Restaurant, 3334 N. Halsted.
