Paul W. Bowles, 52, passed away April 2, 2010, at Rush University Medical Center Palliative Care Unit, surrounded by his family.
A 1978 graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana, he earned his M.S. in computer science from Purdue University, and enjoyed a solid career at Lucent Technologies.
Bowles was the devoted life partner of 10 years to Rick O. Curneal. He is the son of the late George R. Bowles, Jr., and is survived by his mother Wilma R. Bowles and brother George R. Bowles, III of Lafayette, La. He has one sister, Karen E. Bowles of Houston, Texas. In addition, he was the uncle of Asheley and Dana, also of Houston, and Brandon Bowles of Baton Rouge, La.
He leaves behind many dear friends, including his caregiver Zollie Pete, godson Crispin Thomas and faithful companion Harley the Shiba Inu.
Bowles was a longtime member of the Chicago Metropolitan Sports Association, where he played volleyball and softball. His teams won several league championships and tournaments.
A celebration of his life is being planned for May 1.
