The hit TV show Glee has been picked up by Fox for a third seasoneven though it has not yet wrapped up its first season, according to US Magazine. Peter Rice, the Fox Networks Group entertainment chairman, said, "In just one year, Glee has transcended the television landscape and emerged as a global pop-culture phenomenon." Gleewhich chronicles the lives of a group of musically inclined students at fictional McKinley High Schoolhas aired episodes revolving around the songs of Madonna and Lady Gaga. The last episode of the first season will air June 8.
Singer Christina Aguilera has postponed her North American tour, citing a lack of rehearsal time, according to Entertainment Weekly. Aguilera released a statement that stated, "Christina Aguilera's summer tour has been moved to 2011 due to prior commitments that the singer had made to her film, Burlesque, and to the promotion of her new album, Bionic…. The singer felt she needed more time to rehearse the show and with less than a month between the album release and tour date this wasn't possible." The tour was slated to start in July.
Sir Elton John will not be the next American Idol judge. John was passed on replacing Simon Cowell, who is leaving after this season to start his own talent show. According to an Advocate.com item, John would have received $33 million for the jobalthough it is not known if that money was for one season or more.
Speaking of Sir Elton, he played a concert in Morocco May 26 despite the protests of the Justice and Development Party ( PJD ) , a fundamentalist Muslim organization, according to the New York Times. The PJD complained that having John as the headliner of the Mawazine World Rhythms Festival would condone homosexuality. The event's organizers contended that John's personal life had nothing to do with the festival.
Openly gay actor Sean Hayes has been named the host of the 2010 Tony Awards, taking place June 13, according to Entertainment Weekly. Hayes is also nominated for a Tony for his role in the production Promises, Promises, which co-stars Kristin Chenoweth. Hayes had been enveloped in controversy since Newsweek writer Ramin Setoodehwho is also gaywrote an article criticizing gay actors who take on heterosexual roles. Setoodeh had singled out Hayes and actor Jonathan Groff, who is on TV's Glee.
One actor is moving from high schoolsto adult vampires. According to OnTheFlix.com, Michael Steger ( who co-stars on the CW series 90210 ) will play a gay prostitute on the hit HBO show True Blood. Steger, who plays Navid on the Beverly Hills 90210 remake, will play a hustler named Tony who gets picked up by the King of Mississippi Russell Edgington ( Denis O'Hare ) because Tony looks like Russell's current boyfriend, Talbot ( Theo Alexander ) . Season three of True Blood will premiere June 13.

Former Dancing with the Stars contestant and current The Insider panelist Niecy Nash was among a group of celebrities who recently posed for the "NOH8" campaign, which protests Prop 8, California's anti-marriage-equality initiative. According to TheInsider.com, Nash and dancing partner Louis van Amstel ( who is out ) were joined by "Dancing" stars Brooke Burke, Marlee Matlin, Marissa Jaret Winokur and Denise Richards as well as American Idol alum Kimberley Locke. "I think it's very important to support a cause that fights for people's rights," said Nash.
