Located in the Gold Coast neighborhood at 1009 N. Rush St., Jellyfish is a pan-Asian restaurant that offers upscale dining and will have guests swimming in for more.
Start off with the avocado and crab salad, which is the chef's signature dish, then snack on the chili-glazed chicken skewers.
The specialty drinks combine a lot of ingredients and may not be to everyone's taste, such as the Lyons Mane. This Partida Blanco tequila drink was too spicy to enjoy properly although the server warned me when it was ordered. Must have been that thai chili in the cocktail. Instead there is always Japanese whiskey if a mixed drink is not to your liking. Yamazaki aged 18 years is on the high end at $54 a pop but you are worth it, so splurge!
The sizzling stone is a fun way to cook tableside with wagyu zabuton, just don't leave the meat on for too long as it sticks to the rock and meant to be served medium rare. The executive chef Jason Im will even come out from the kitchen and help the rookie cooker if need be. Zabuton means "cushion" in Japanese and comes from the shortrib.
Rumor has it the spicy salmon and kiss of fire rolls (tune, jalapeno and cucumber) are must-try items, as are the spider rolls.
There is such a huge selection of sushi rolls. Why not just order the sashimi deluxe and let the chef choose for you?
If there is still room in the gut the taro root funnel cake and the chocolate brownie with belvedere vodka creme should finish the job.
Afterwards stop over to the lounge with the perfect blue hue lighting and atmosphere to help diners chill out with a DJ spinning in the corner under a Jellyfish glow.
Jellyfish has a great view but is a little invisible, like many jellies in real life, with its wooden storefront entrance and second-story location. Don't miss this star in an ocean of restaurants right across from Gibsons Steakhouse and Hugo's Frog Bar. Whether it's lunch with clients or a hot dinner date, Jellyfish give hints of Miami in the heart of Chicago.
