The Chicago Commission on Human Relations Advisory Council on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues has named the 2003 list of individuals, organizations, and a family selected for inclusion in the world's only known municipally sponsored hall of fame that honors members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities, announced Mayor Richard M. Daley, Commission Chair Clarence N. Wood, and ACGLI Chair Laura Rissover.
Chosen nominees will be inducted at the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame's 13th annual ceremony, which will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 at the Chicago Cultural Center, 77 E. Randolph St. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m., and the program is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
Organizations: AIDS Legal Council of Chicago, About Face Theatre, Buddies', Chicago Black Lesbians and Gays.
Individuals: Angel Abcede, Chef Tania Callaway (1952-2000), Armand R. Cerbone, Ph.D., R. Sue Connolly, Robert Bonvouloir Foster (1955-1991), Tonda L. Hughes, Ph.D., Patricia M. Logue, John Pennycuff, Laurence E. Spang, D.D.S., DJ Sheron Denise Webb, Albert N. Williams.
Friend of Community: The Graham Family, a mother, father, daughter, and son who have consistently upheld minority rights within their church and for the past four years have waged a legal battle against perceived antigay discrimination by a church campground.
The 11th Hall of Fame Celebrity Auction benefit is Tuesday, Sept. 23 at Cell Block, 3702 N. Halsted. Registration will begin at 7:30 p.m. and bidding will start at 8 p.m. The event will be sponsored by Ketel One Vodka, Korbel, Miller Lite, Buddies', Cell Block, and Sidetrack.
Auctioneers for the evening will be David Boyer, Jessica Halem, Joan Jett-Blakk, and Honey West.
Prominent personalities from Chicago's LGBT communities will offer items and services for bidders to consider.
