Believing that the only purpose of art is to bring joy, Jesus Selgueiro has always created art that is inspired by love. On Friday, September 20, Selgueiro will reveal his latest exhibitGoing Gaga for Love Mandalas.
Just as Andy Warhol captured the timelessness of Marilyn Monroe in his series of pop art, Selgueiro has done the same with his impressive 12-piece exhibit, Going Gaga. Appropriately titled, the works, which Salgueiro has been working on for the past year, were inspired by none other than music icon Lady Gaga. Salgueiro expertly captures the essence of the music superstar in his series of nylon and canvas paintings.
Salgueiro's new exhibit will also feature 42 intricate, hand-painted love mandalas. Traditional in Hindu and Buddhist cultures, mandalas are spiritual and ritual symbols that represent the Universe. Most often created in sand and swept away shortly after completion, Salgueiro's mandalas are unique as they are done on canvas with nyloncreating a lasting image of this spiritual symbol. The basic form of most mandalas is a square with four gates, in the general shape of a T, containing a circle with a center point.Mandalas also often exhibit radial balance.
At the exclusive event, guests will have the opportunity to view the entire impressive collection, as well as enjoy food and drink courtesy of the Art Smith Company, Belly Q, GT Fish and Oyster, Chef Jamie Laurita, Good Vines and River North Beer. A portion of proceeds from the night will benefit Common Threads, an organization dedicated to teaching children living in underserved communities how to cook wholesome, healthy meals, as well as the Born this Way Foundation which aims to create a "braver, kinder world" for youths, create safe-spaces, promote the learning of life skills, and provide opportunities to improve their local communities.
