Following its acceptance of the iconic Governors Award at the 2023 Emmys Ceremony presented by the Television Academy, GLAAD announced the nominees for the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards.

The GLAAD Media Awards honor media for fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues. Since 1990, the GLAAD Media Awards have grown to be the most visible annual LGBTQ awards show in the world, sending powerful messages of acceptance to audiences globally.

A tip sheet with a breakdown of nominations by media and trends among the nominees is available at: www.glaad.org/releases. Follow #glaadawards and @glaad for updates and reactions from nominees throughout the day.

Nominees for the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards reflect work published, released, or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2023. This year, GLAAD announced 310 nominees across 33 categories.

The GLAAD Media Awards ceremonies, which fund GLAAD's work to accelerate LGBTQ acceptance and visibility in media, will be held this year in Los Angeles at the Beverly Hilton on Thursday, March 14, 2024 and in New York City, at the Hilton Midtown, on Saturday, May 11, 2024.

GLAAD President and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis serves as Executive Producer of the 35th GLAAD Media Awards, alongside GLAAD's Rich Ferraro and Anthony Allen Ramos. GLAAD's Tony Morrison will serve as Supervising Producer and Jose Useche will serve as Producer. The ceremonies will be produced in partnership with STAMP Event Co.

For more information on how to become a corporate sponsor or to purchase company tables, please contact partnerships@glaad.org .

Statement by GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis:

"For 35 years, the GLAAD Media Awards has provided the global stage for LGBTQ creators, alongside industry talent and leaders to be celebrated and supported. At a time when the LGBTQ community is under attack by false narratives and misinformation, when less than half of American say they are familiar with transgender and nonbinary people, and when one in five Gen Z adults identify as LGBTQ, this year's nominees powerfully reflect the realities of LGBTQ existence today, in our communities and around the globe. Amid a summer of union strikes across Hollywood, the stakes have never been higher to maintain the progress of LGBTQ visibility and representation across all media, from film, television, music, journalism, publishing and more."

Each year, GLAAD presents non-competitive Special Recognition Awards to media projects that do not fit into one of the existing GLAAD Media Awards categories. For the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, GLAAD is presenting Special Recognition honors to 11 media projects and individuals that spotlighted diverse segments of the LGBTQ community in innovative ways. The 11 individuals and projects include: The Dads (Netflix), Drag Latina (Revry / LATV), El Sabor de Navidad (Vix), Enamorándonos (Univision), +Life Media, Love in Gravity, Relighting Candles (Hulu), Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce (AMC Theatres), The Tennessee Holler, Wendy, perdida pero famosa (Vix), and Yes I Am: The Ric Weiland Story.

GLAAD's Barbara Gittings Award for Excellence in LGBTQ Media honors a pioneering individual, group, or community media outlet that has made a significant contribution to the development of LGBTQ media. The award is named after Barbara Gittings in recognition of her groundbreaking work as editor of The Ladder, and for her appearances as an out lesbian on national news media throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

This year, The Barbara Gittings Award for Excellence in LGBTQ Media will be presented to +Life Media. Founded in 2019 by AOMedia and journalist Karl Schmid, +Life is a multi-platform brand that produces content laser focused on ending HIV stigma, bringing the conversation about HIV into the mainstream and "turning positive into a plus." The multi-platform brand is inspired by journalist and KABC-TV 'On The Red Carpet' host Karl Schmid's own story of living with fear of having HIV due to the amount of ignorance and stigma surrounding the virus. Content that tells the stories of HIV advocates and people living with HIV, reports the latest research in HIV prevention and treatment, and encourages viewers to live their best lives runs across +Life social media channels and runs each week on ABC's Localish.

A full summary of the projects receiving Special Recognition can be found in the tip sheet with an additional breakdown of facts and figures about this year's nominees available at: www.glaad.org/releases.

Last year, GLAAD's 34th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, streamed exclusively on Hulu and can be watched here. The program featured groundbreaking appearances by Christina Aguilera who received GLAAD's Advocate for Change Award and was introduced by Club Q Survivor, Michael Anderson. Bad Bunny was honored with GLAAD's Vanguard Award and was introduced by Ricky Martin; Jeremy Pope received GLAAD's Stephen F. Kolzak Award and was introduced by Gabrielle Union.

The New York ceremony for the 34th Annual GLAAD Media Awards was hosted by producer, Critics Choice-nominated actor and GLAAD Award winner, Harvey Guillén. The evening opened with a special performance by multi-platinum selling singer/songwriter and Tony Award-winning Broadway icon, Idina Menzel, with the global debut of her new hit, Move.
