Sex and the City

Goes Cinemascope

'The End' is only really the end when a movie deal isn't forthcoming. Always remember that. Because just when you thought you'd heard the last from Manhattan's favorite ladies, word is out that Sex and the City may be making the leap from HBO to a different sort of box office. Series creator Michael Patrick King is already working on a feature-length script that would reunite the shoe-obsessed foursome. Meanwhile, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis are all in talks to resurrect their characters. As for minor details like shooting dates, co-stars, and plot points (will Baryshnikov's Aleksandr Petrovsky duke it out with Big—er, John—for Carrie's affection?), nothing is certain just yet. But stay tuned.

A Lesbian Love Bug

Romeo always thought lesbians had a special affinity for Volkswagen Beetles, and now there's proof. Queer director Angela Robinson, whose debut feature D.E.B.S. had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and will hit theaters later this year, has signed on to helm Disney's Love Bug remake. The current working title is Herbie: Fully Loaded, and the human star could very well turn out to be Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen's Lindsay Lohan. If she accepts, that will make three Disney remakes in a row for the charming Ms. Lohan, who also starred in The Parent Trap and Freaky Friday. As for Herbie's new adventure, word is that this one is set in the world of NASCAR. Does that mean the little bug will have Viagra, Target, and Krispy Kreme logos painted on its hood?

Beautiful Blond Actor Alert

If you saw Elephant, director Gus Van Sant's formal meditation on teenage violence, then you remember John Robinson's face, if not his name. He was the troubled-yet-friendly blond pretty boy with the shaggy skater hair. Discovered by Van Sant, Robinson is heating up his career in roles that make the most of his sleepy, almost androgynous boyishness. Next he'll be seen in the film version of queer 'It' writer and Van Sant collaborator J.T. Leroy's The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things. Robinson has also just signed on to play—what else?—a skater boy in the fictional adaptation of the acclaimed skateboarding documentary Dogtown and Z-Boys. Typecasting for sure—but at least he won't have to change his haircut.

Y Tu Almodovar Tambien

Mexican heartthrob Gael Garcia Bernal, who engaged in some hot smooching with co-star Diego Luna in Y Tu Mama Tambien, will soon be hanging out with a Catholic priest in the latest film from queer Spanish director Pedro Almodovar. As Romeo reported last year, La Mala Educacion (Bad Education) is the story of two teenage boys, a priest, and their three-decade friendship. And lest you think things get torrid between the priest and his young friends, be warned that Almodovar never takes the most obvious path, even when it comes to men having sex. The film has already been awarded the honor of opening this year's Cannes Film Festival in May; and given Almodovar's recent status as an A-list, Oscar-winning foreign film director, expect it to open later this year in the states —just in time for Academy consideration.
