Any list of 'Current TV Actors Who Look Great Shirtless' would have to include Prison Break star Dominic Purcell and Desperate Housewives' Jesse Metcalfe. So it's lucky for us that this toothsome twosome has signed on to co-star in the vampire movie Town Creek. It's even luckier that the director's chair will be filled by gay filmmaker Joel Schumacher, whose adoring gaze certainly didn't hurt the equally photogenic Colin Farrell and Matthew Davis in Tigerland. Set to begin shooting in March, Town Creek deals with two brothers who set out on a mission of revenge, only to find themselves trapped in a creepy occult experiment that dates back to the Nazis. Look for Schumacher to keep the thrills—and the sweaty torso shots—coming.
Tori Spelling Gets Set to Kiss the Bride
Tori Spelling has always cultivated an enthusiastic gay following, whether it's for her years playing goody-goody Donna Martin on Beverly Hills 90210 or for her hilarious turn as an actress on the verge of a meltdown in the queer indie Trick. Now she's teaming with out filmmaker C. Jay Cox ( writer of Sweet Home Alabama and director of Latter Days ) on the romantic comedy Kiss the Bride. Tori plays a young bride-to-be who has to deal with the sudden appearance of her fiance's best friend from high school. Who's gay. And who had a fling with the groom back in the day. Can this wedding be saved? Find out when Kiss books chapels—I mean, theaters—nationwide in 2007.
Jai Rodriguez Trains His Queer Eye on Miami
Jai Rodriguez is a talented stage performer ( Rent, Zanna, Don't! ) , but his role on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy has always seemed a little amorphous. After a straight guy's been given new hair, clothes, furnishings, and food, what's left to do? But Rodriguez no longer has to worry about being a fifth wheel, now that he's scored a show of his own. English-language Latino network Si TV's Styleyes begins its third season in April 2007, with Rodriguez taking over hosting and producing duties as the series moves to Miami. The show promises to take viewers into exclusive fashion shows, South Beach nightclubs, and other favorite celebrity hangouts. And Jai fans will no longer have to wait for him to push those camera-hogs Carson and Kyan out of his way.
Ian McKellen Crowns King Lear in Brooklyn
While gay actor Ian McKellen has amassed fame and fortune for his turns in the X-Men and Lord of the Rings series, he's also one of the greatest living stage actors and interpreters of the classics. So get thee to New York next year to see McKellen put his own spin on Shakespeare's King Lear and Chekhov's The Seagull. Both productions will make their world premieres in the U.K. in March before coming to the Brooklyn Academy of Music in September. Also at BAM in 2007 will be Edward Hall's all-male stagings of The Taming of the Shrew and Twelfth Night in March. Since the latter play involves a woman disguising herself as a man, a male actor in the role will have to pull a total reverse of Victor/Victoria.
