Out at CHM Fellowship program launched at Chicago History Museum
CHICAGO ( March 03, 2010 ) The Chicago History Museum is proud to announce its inaugural Out Fellowship awarded to Tracy Baim, publisher and managing editor of Chicago's largest chain of gay and lesbian publications, Windy City Media Group. This fellowship is presented in partnership with the Museum's OUT at CHMprogram. Out at CHM is celebrating its seventh year of programs focusing on the history of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered ( LGBT ) Chicago community.
The Out Fellowship will be offered to an academic or independent scholar whose Chicago focused research supports the goals of the Out at CHM initiative. The fellow's work will aid the Museum in identifying potential LGBT collections, artifacts, and archives for acquisition.
Along with her work with the Windy City Media Group, Baim is the founding co-chair of the Chicago Area Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, editor of the published book Out and Proud in Chicago: An Overview of the City's Gay Community, recipient of the 2005 Studs Terkel Award, and is an inductee to Chicago's Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame.
Russell Lewis, the Museum's Executive Vice President and Chief Historian stated, "Tracy Baim has been recognized by community leaders and our staff here at the Museum as an ideal and representative inaugural Fellow. We look forward to working with her over the next year." Baim will present her findings on a quarterly basis and develop a final presentation at the conclusion of her fellowship term.
