Be 'Out, Safe & Respected' at School
In September, Lambda Legal launched a national campaign aimed at making schools safer for LGBTQ youth. 'Out, Safe & Respected' includes public service announcements (PSAs) that will run on television and radio in key markets throughout the country. Featuring a group of LGBTQ young people from Chicago, the PSA leads with the message that it's OK to be who you are and offers important information about students' legal rights. The campaign, which will continue through the school year, also features an interactive Web site and a fun and informative 'tool kit' designed to help LGBTQ high school students learn about their rights and how to exercise them.

Send A Queer Book to School
According to a recent study by GLSEN (Gay Lesbian Straight Educators Network), 55% of American high schools do not have any LGBT resources in their library.
As the new school year starts, it's the perfect time to add needed materials to the shelves of your old high school's library. So, send a message and a copy of KINGS & QUEENS: Queers at the Prom or a book from GLSEN's list of recommendations.
Go to www.reunion.com and get your school's address. Then, if you want to send a copy of KINGS & QUEENS, head to www.amazon.com, search King and Queens by David Boyer. Or, if you'd like to select a book from GLSEN's list of recommendations, head to www.glsen.org . Don't forget to include a little note
