Wyoming is latest state to ban gender-affirming care for minors

On March 22, Wyoming became the latest state to prohibit gender-affirming care for minors, The Hill noted.

In doing so, it joined 23 other states that passed laws restricting or banning the treatment.

Legislators in both state chambers endorsed the measure, Senate File 99, earlier this month, and Gov. Mark Gordon signed the bill. The legislation would penalize pharmacists, doctors and other healthcare professionals for providing gender-affirming care to minors by revoking their licenses or banning them from practicing in the state.

State Sen. Anthony Bouchard (R-Cheyenne) sponsored the bill, which will take effect in July. He claimed the measure would ban the use of pharmaceuticals in altering "normal adolescent development.''

WyoFile noted that in response to the legislation being signed into law, Wyoming Equality Executive Director Sara Burlingame said the organization "remains dismayed" that Gordon "avoided the hard work of charting a common sense course on healthcare for transgender students and their families."

Interestingly, Wyoming is nicknamed The Equality State.
