Days after Sweden snapped the U.S. women's national team's (USWNT's) 44-game win streak with a deflating 3-0 loss, the U.S. team scored a 6-1 victory over New Zealand on July 24, The Sporting News noted.
The win lifted the USWNT into second place in Group G with one game left to play.
The USWNT are now tied with Australia on points (three points), but it wins the tiebreaker on goal difference. A win or draw against Australia will be enough to secure second place behind Sweden, which also beat Australia 4-2.
In its win over New Zealand, Rose Lavelle, Lindsey Horan, Christen Press and Alex Morgan scored goals, and there were two own-goals on the opponents' part, totaling six.
