Woman Made, Chicago Artery invite all to show works

Center on Halsted is partnering with Woman Made Gallery and Chicago Artery to provide community art workshops throughout Aug. and Sept. 2013. Space is limited and early registration is encouraged. Workshops are free and materials are provided. Workshops will be held at Center on Halsted, located at 3656 N. Halsted St., Chicago, Ill. Artists will not retain their work as it will become part of future exhibitions.

Participants in Woman Made Gallery's 20 Neighborhoods Project workshops should be woman-identified or identify on the feminine spectrum. Participants will work on collaborative pieces and be led by teaching artists and paired with participants from Arts of Life, an organization dedicated to helping individuals with developmental disabilities realize their full potential, and the House of Good Shepherd, a Chicago-based domestic violence shelter that has served women and children of the community for more than 150 years. Woman Made Gallery will exhibit the workshop pieces in Oct. 2013.

Woman Made Gallery's 20 Neighborhoods Project workshops will take place on:

Tuesday, Aug. 20 from 6 p.m. — 7:30

Tuesday, Aug. 27 from 6 p.m. — 7:30

Tuesday, Sept. 3 from 6 p.m. — 7:30

Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 6 p.m. — 7:30

Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 6 p.m. — 7:30

Chicago Artery workshops will take place on:

Thursday, Sept. 5 from 11 a.m. — 1 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 9 from 11 a.m. — 1 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. — 1 p.m.

Monday, Sept. 16 from 11 a.m. — 1 p.m.

All individuals are welcome to participate in the Chicago Artery workshops, regardless of gender or identity. Chicago Artery is a culmination of artists, educators, and supporters collaborating to move Chicago in progressive ways through arts engagement. Chicago Artery provides free, accessible programming for Chicago's LGBTQ community at the Center on Halsted. We are building momentum through collaborative projects such as this and using shared learning as a platform for community growth. Chicago Artery will have a month-long show in October entitled "He(art): Art for our sake" that will include artworks from participants from the Center on Halsted and the Lincoln Park Community Shelter. Participants will have the option to sell their artwork and 25 percent of the revenue will help fund Chicago Artery's mission.

20 Neighborhoods is a community-based project that originally celebrated Woman Made Gallery's 20th Anniversary. The gallery is partnering with multiple Chicago neighborhood and community-based organizations to create an art exhibition based on Chicago women's individual and collective experiences and aspirations for their homes, neighborhoods, communities and city.
