Press Release 5-28-03
Chicago – The sensation that's blowing through Chicago, Windy City Gay Idol, crowns a winner during the final event Saturday, June 14 at Circuit Nightclub, 3641 N. Halsted, start-time 7 p.m.
Windy City Media Group and Bud Light have been searching for the ultimate amateur singing sensation in the GLBT (gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender) community. Sixteen contestants will now vie for the title after qualifying at seven different preliminary bars over the course of three months.
Finalists represent a variety of races and ages, coincidentally evenly divided between eight women and eight men, and hail from as near as the North Side of Chicago to South Holland and Joliet, Ill.
The finals will be a whirlwind of production featuring video montages of past performances (good and bad), three rounds of spectacular singing narrowing it down to one final winner, all led by Windy City Radio hosts Amy Matheny and Jim Bennett.
What would an Idol event be without rivaling judges? No need to find out because Gay Idol will panel six judges ranging from concert promoter Jennifer Murphy (Murphy-Mosier Productions), DJ Harry T and cabaret singer Stephen Rader to singer/songwriters Jen Porter, Scott Free and nationally known music critic Gregg Shapiro.
The crowned winner, voted for by the judges as well as the audience, will walk away with two American Airlines tickets to anywhere in the U.S., a fabulous cash prize, a Bud Light Mountain Bike, a recording session with Materville Studios and the coveted title of Gay Idol spokesperson for the duration of 2003.
The finals will start at 7 p.m. sharp. $5 cover.
Event sponsors for Gay Idol include Bud Light, Windy City Media Group, American Airlines, Materville Studios, Creaoke and W Hotels.
Windy City Media Group produces Windy City Times, Windy City Radio, BLACKlines, Nightspots, En La Vida and OUT! Guide.
Finalists as well as the hosts are available to appear on radio, television and print in the weeks ahead and can all be arranged through Windy City Media Group. To set up an interview contact Kathleen Ulm, 773-871-7610 or email WindyCityMedia@aol.com .
