Caryn Johnson, better known as Whoopi Goldberg, arrived by bus in Chicago Feb. 11. The Academy Award- and Golden Globe-winning actress was in town with the rest of The View cast members to film The Oprah Winfrey Show. Winfrey shed a few tears at the taping with Whoopi where they put the rumors and past behind them once and for all. In the afternoon Goldberg signed more than 150 copies of her book, Is It Just Me Or Is It Nuts Out There? for fans. To celebrate Black History Month she performed in the evening for a sold out show at The Venue in Hammond, Ind.
She stated, "My nipples are hanging to the ground it's so cold here!" She covered such topics as menopause, obnoxious children and the obsession with cell phones and Facebook: "I miss getting high. In the old days weed was the way to interact with people."
Latecomers were frowned upon: "If I rolled in here at this time you would have been mad as hell. Being late is a bitch of mine." The audience explained that parking in a very full garage was the problem.
Goldberg relaxed and had fun with the audience by discussing serious topics with her brand of humor and insight. Religion, immigration and politics were all discussed, which have been her strong suit hosting The View. She explained that she feels Elisabeth Hasselbeck has grown during the run of the show and Sherri Shepherd supported her by making an appearance onstage.
She mentioned her thoughts on gay marriage telling people to mind their own business followed by cheers from the crowd: "If you are a priest you are never going to get married so why do you care?"
To finish her very long day she answered questions comically from the audience, showing why people call her "Whoopi." Find out more about the Horseshoe's future acts at www.horseshoehammond.com .
