Jason Plummer, the Republican candidate for Illinois lieutenant governor, is a 27-year-old Edwardsville businessman and self-described conservative who is counting on his corporate experience to help him in the election.
Plummer, who attended the University of Illinois, is vice president for corporate development for R.P. Lumber Co., his family's business, according to his campaign Web site, JasonPlummer.com . Plummer is also an intelligence officer in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He also has served under former U.S. Sen. Peter Fitzgerald.
He is hoping his business experience will garner votes, saying, "As Lt. Governor I will draw from my business and leadership experience and use the office as a bully pulpit to help create new and meaningful jobs, lower taxes, and revitalize the Illinois economy." On a recent episode of Chicago Tonight, he said that, among other things, he would like to take a look at the issue of legislators' pensions.
Regarding social topics, there was nothing found on the Web site; his Issues page dealt solely with business and the economy. This is Plummer's first political race.
