Welcome to the 2006 Windy City Times Primary Election Guide. Without a presidential election to attract the voters, ballots cast in these mid-term elections often carry more impact. And while many incumbents—Democrat and Republican alike—are sitting pretty comfortable especially in their party's primary election next Tuesday, March 21, there are a few interesting races.
Windy City Times does not endorse in political races. Rather, we send out questionnaires to candidates and rate their responses based on the total number of questions for that race. All candidates were sent the questionnaire. We also list the endorsements of various gay and progressive groups, and area bar associations.
There are GLBT candidates running for office, seeking votes in several races March 21: Debra Shore for Metropolitan Reclamation District; Rep. Larry McKeon for re-election; Judge Tom Chiola for retention; and Mary Colleen Roberts and Mike McHale for judge.
See past editions for interviews and articles on those candidates as well as other non-gay pols running for office, on the WCT Web site at www.windycitymediagroup.com . In this issue, you can find a few final stories plus our ratings and endorsements grids. You can take this guide into the polls with you next Tuesday.
