TransReelization fest Aug. 29
The second annual TransReelization film fest will take place Saturday, Aug. 29, at Kinowerks Studio, 5645 N. Ravenswood Ave.
The VIP reception is 6 p.m., with the general-admission part of the evening starting at 7:30 p.m.
This evening of cocktails, celebrities and film supports the critical work of the Chicago House—TransLife Center. The studio is the production company of siblings Andy and Lana Wachowski. ( Lana is transgender. )
VIP attendees will, among other things, meet the stars of the Wachowskis' Netflix series Sense8— Jamie Clayton ( Nomi Marks ), Miguel Angel Silvestre ( Lito Rodriquez ) and Brian J. Smith ( Will Gorski ); meet this year's TransReelization award recipient, Col. Jennifer N. Pritzker, IL ARNG ( retired ); and go on a tour of the studio.
Admission is $150-500 each; see ChicagoHouse.org .
'Rodeo Round Town' Aug. 21-23
The Illinois Gay Rodeo Association will hold its "Rodeo Round Town" weekend Aug. 21-23.
Events will include a rodeo hoedown dance at Charlie's, 3726 N. Broadway, on Aug. 21 at 9 p.m.; a "Cowboy Eye for the Leather Guy" makeover contest on Aug. 22 at Touche, 6412 N. Clark St., at 10 p.m.; and a "Happy Trails" farewell dance Aug. 23 at The Call, 1547 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., at 4 p.m.
