BOLINGBROOK - United Working Families, an independent political organization powered by progressive labor and community organizations, today announced that they will be supporting volunteer-led efforts to build political power for working people in Will County.
Notable progressives running for office in Will County include Bolingbrook mayoral candidate Jackie Traynere, who challenges Trump donor and longstanding incumbent mayor Roger Claar, and the Bolingbrook United slate for village clerk and trustees.
Following is the statement of Emma Tai, Executive Director of United Working Families, on today's announcement:
"United Working Families is proud to support the people of Will County who are volunteering, campaigning, and working tirelessly to chart a new path forward for progressive politics.
"In Bolingbrook, union organizer Jackie Traynere is taking on a major Trump backer, longtime incumbent mayor Roger Claar. She is running as part of Bolingbrook United, a progressive slate that includes candidates for village clerk and trustees.
"Jackie is a founding member of the Will County Progressives, an all-volunteer organization formed by local supporters of the Bernie Sanders primary campaign. Members of the Will County Progressives are also running for school board seats in Bolingbrook and Joliet, volunteering for fellow progressives, and actively educating their neighbors and lobbying their elected officials.
"At a time when elites in both parties are helping the rich get richer while so many others struggle to get by, we are proud to endorse the grassroots efforts in Will County to stand up for working families and chart a new path forward. We're committed to joining forces, winning elections, and building grassroots political power together for the future we all deserve."
