San Diego resident Ryan Habrel has been arrested for committing arson at Gossip Grill, a queer women's bar in San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood, according to LGBTQ San Diego County News.
The crime took place in the early-morning hours of Oct. 20. Witnesses spotted two separate fires on the property
A Facebook Reel showing the fires had the caption, "We can't believe this happened. … It was intentional and was arson.
"Everyone is OK and damage was contained to the front patios. We do have cameras and [are] working with SDPD to find out who lit our Queer Home on fire. Gossip Grill is one of the last remaining Queer Women's bars in the country. It breaks my heart knowing that someone intentionally tried to burn it down. If anyone has any info helping to find out who did this, please reach out to me and SDPD. And a huge THANK YOU to our fire department for saving our home."
The bar posted a graphic on social media stating that it would be open Oct. 20, with the caption, "We are utterly speechless from the amount of kindness and support we've already received from you all." A person identified as Christina Maida responded, "Can't burn down love."
"I am so grateful for the quick response by the San Diego Fire Department and the staff at Rich's who quickly responded," co-owner Moe Girton told LGBTQ San Diego County News. "It is important for the folx in our community to know that our staff is safe, and thankfully damage is minimal. Its nothing that cannot easily be replaced."
Gossip Grill has been in operation since 2009.
