CHICAGO - Trikone-Chicago will screen Jayan Cherian's "Ka Bodyscapes", a movie banned by the film censor board of India for "glorifying the subject of gay and homosexual relationships".
The film, set in present day, narrates the story of three friends - Haris, a gay painter; Vishnu, a rural kabaddi player and their friend Sia, an activist, as they struggle to find space and happiness in a conservative Indian city. The movie recreates in action the struggles of the young to gain space in the face of entrenched conservatism, predatory capitalism and community and class oppression in general. The film is in south-Indian Malayalam language with closed captioning in English.
The screening will be followed by an interactive Q&A session with the director, Jayan Cherian via skype and Chicago-based writer and activist, Yasmin Nair. $5 or more donation will go towards screening expenses.
