On Saturday afternoon, Jan. 18, from 1-3 p.m., the public is invited to participate in a town hall meeting to discuss issues and concerns related to aging in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. The meeting is one of a series of regional meetings being held across the country as part of a national needs assessment project being conducted by SAGE (Senior Action in a Gay Environment).
'We are hoping for a broad cross-section of those involved with and/or concerned about LGBT issues and aging issues,' said Perry Wiggins, Mature Adult Program Manager at Horizons Community Services. 'The meeting is intended to bring together individuals and agencies who work in the 'mainstream' aging service community, as well as those from across the LGBT community. The information gained in these meetings will be utilized in developing a national strategy to meet the needs of LGBT seniors.'
The meeting is being sponsored by SAGE, the Chicago Taskforce on LGBT Aging, and Horizons Community Services' Mature Adult Program. Horizons will be hosting the meeting at its Lincoln Park offices, 961 W. Montana Street, in Chicago.
RSVPs are encouraged to assist with planning, but all will be welcome to participate in the discussion.
