As an icy December wind raced through Federal Plaza, thousands of Chicagoans gathered for an "Impeach/Remove Trump" rally on Dec. 17the eve of the House of Representatives' vote to impeach President Donald Trump.
Carrying signs, chanting slogans, and attempting to stay warm, attendees aimed to show their support for Congress passing both articles of impeachment.
Marj Halperinof Indivisible Chicago, one of the event's hostsstated, "We think it's time to impeach and remove [Trump] from office for the laws he has broken, the abuse of power, and the way he has endangered national security."
Speakers included Indivisible Chicago Executive Director Darcey Regan and CNN legal analyst Renato Mariotti.
Denise Poloyac, also a member of Indivisible Chicago, said, "The message we send is that we care about the state of our democracy, and the state of our democracy requires people to follow the law. Nobody is above the law, that's why we're out here. It's very cold tonight, it's a week before Christmas, but we're out here because we need to be, we care about our democracy."
Local groups that partnered with Indivisible Chicago included Chicago Women Take Action, Chicago NOW, Blue Beginnings, Friends Who March, Schools Say Enough, Indivisible Western Front, Ottawa Indivisible, Greenly Lasalle Indivisible, Indivisible Western Springs, Indivisible IL, Indivisible Oak Park and Illinois Handmaids.
