NEW YORK -- (October 13, 2011) — Hailed by audiences as inspirational, lauded by critics as irresistible, The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls is the story of Jools and Lynda Topp, the world's only yodeling country singing and comedy lesbian twins, who have entertained a generation with their politics and celebration of joy. The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls is available on DVD November 8 at a suggested retail price of $19.98 from The Disinformation Company.
The twin sisters grew up singing to cows on their family's dairy farm, and in the 1980s were young radicals, singing at the frontlines of every major political movement in their New Zealand homeland. At a time when it was career suicide to be "out" they still attracted a mainstream audience. Doubly funny and enormously powerful singers, their politically-charged comedy theatre helped change the social fabric of a nation, and in the process The Topps became unlikely cultural icons.
The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls includes appearances by the twins' alter-ego characters--Camp Mother & Camp Leader; Ken & Ken and Raylene & Brenda, among others. The film also takes a somber turn as it documents Jools battle against breast cancer. Lynda films her sister going through her treatments and Jools becomes an inspiration for women afflicted by the disease. The Topp Twins brave outlook endears them further to their fans.
The film has mirrored The Topp Twins touring success around the world winning more than 20 Best Documentary Awards and screening at over 80 international film festivals. The film made its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival where it won the Cadillac People's Choice Award for Best Documentary.
