The Future Laureates perform benefit for Streetwise

CHICAGO, IL (August 8, 2011) — The Future Laureates are excited to announce that they will be headlining a benefit show for Streetwise, a Chicago agency dedicated to helping and empowering the city's homeless through means of employment, housing and social services. The performance will be held at Beat Kitchen in Lakeview on Friday, August 19th. 50% of the proceeds will go directly to the Streetwise organization.
Along with The Future Laureates, Bassel and the Supernaturals; Tree; and The Hand Grenades will also be performing at the benefit show. Tickets are on sale now for $8 and can be purchased at ticketweb.com .
Public service has been a priority to The Future Laureates since their formation at Loyola University Chicago several years ago. The boys credit Loyola for their consistent focus on service and social justice in their music and work.
"We want to use our music to engage and motivate our fans," said singer and guitarist Danny Surico. "Our shows are definitely fun, but we also want our music to be a catalyst for bringing about positive change in Chicago. We're not necessarily writing songs about social justice issues, but we're always playing for someone or something, remembering there's a cause greater than ourselves."
This show comes at the end of The Future Laureates' first east coast tour, which just recently wrapped up. They have also had a handful of shows across the Midwest this summer. Their recent EP, Rethink the Recession, has received radio play on 140 college and community stations across North America, and they have also signed licensing agreements for their record to be used for a variety of shows on MTV, Showtime, and Discovery Networks (including Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, and the Oprah Winfrey Network).
The benefit performance at the Beat Kitchen is expected to bring in a full house, and pre-ordering tickets is highly encouraged. The doors for this 21+ show open at 8:30pm, with the first set starting at 9pm. Beat Kitchen is located at 2100 W Belmont Ave.
