So no sooner did I send the last issue to the printers than the axe fell on the lovely employees of SPIN, who were abruptly informed Mon., May 26, that it was all over. Nightspots wishes very good fortune to all the wonderful staff in finding their next gig. It was great to see most of them the following Wednesday at Replay to share a few memories. And get ready for a big SPIN project I'm working on. If you've ever been in a picture in this mag from SPIN ( and there have been over 1,400 in the past 10 years ), you'll be included.
And speaking of which, we had a bit of a scramble to find a new venue for Windy City Gay Idol's Wild Card round, which was originally slated for SPIN. A million thanks to the good people at Progress Bar for picking up the slack. It was a drunky good time. And it gave us the final 2 of the semi-final 23. See the voting guide on page 20 and see you at Sidetrack, Sat., June 14, for the big show.
Been hearing some rave reviews of Hell in a Handbag's Caged Dames over at the Theatre Wit. And to have its debut coincide with the release of the second season of OITNB is a stroke of caged genius. Broads behind bars are all the rage these days. If you're a fan of David Cerda's work, I hear this is right up there with Poseidon! Caged Dames plays Thu. thru Sun. until July 13. Check out www.handbagproductions.org for more caged heat.
Being at Mary's Attic's WUF, I thought ( and smelled ) that IML had not yet ended. Same gear, same hair, same whiff of man. So, yes, Kirk had fun. Kirk likes that sort of thing.
I also like being a trivia host, or KWizmaster as I have taken to calling myself. Won't you let me share some trivia love all over you this Thu., June 12, at The Glenwood, for '90s Trivia. Yes, grab your best blue Gap dress and cum ... I mean ejaculate ... I mean COME to The Glenwood at 9 for prizes, liquors and some challenging questions about the decade of grunge, Mariah, and so many other historical treasures.
