Baseball revelers and fans all gathered at DePaul's Barnes & Noble for an inside look and intimate talk with the creators of New York Times best-seller Baseball Prospectus 2011.
Sportswriter and Baseball Prospectus co-founder Christina Kahrl made headlines by coming out as transgender in 2003. Since then, Kahrl has been touring in support of Baseball Prospectus and acts as the liaison Center on Halsted's transgender volunteer program. Kahrl is also a major advocate for transgender rights.
Baseball Prospectus 2011 provides readers with a preview of the 2011 baseball season from an analytical perspective through commentary, critiques and critical essays. Kevin Goldstein, one of the founding members, was glad to take over where Bill James, a baseball writer and historian, left off regarding his endeavors. "Bill James stopped publishing the abstract, so we just really wanted continue where he left off," said Goldstein. (Note: Kahrl did not attend this event.) Photos and text by Terrence Chappell
