Tales from the Sexual Underground
Hot Desert Knights: The Kings of Bareback Porn: Part Three

Let's continue our discussion with Chad Adams, associate editor and sometimes actor in Hot Desert Knights (HDK) bareback videos and DVDs.HDK was the first production company to produce and market condomless gay male productions in the 'post-condom' porn age.

RR: What kind of disclaimers do you put on your packaging and as part of your productions? CA: An extensive qualification on the risks of unprotected sex plays at the beginning of every film—too lengthy to include in this interview. Watch the videos. (RR note: Some of the video boxes contain this disclaimer, quoted in part: 'If you are HIV negative you should do everything possible to remain that way. The use of a condom is one of the most effective methods to prevent the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. The decision to use a condom is up to each individual. You are responsible for your own health.')

RR: What about HIV? Do you ask your actors to disclose their status before the cameras start rolling?

CA: When I came on board as a model in 1999, HDK never asked me to disclose anything, nor did they ever ask me to perform bareback. It was my choice, as it is every model's. They did, however, have me sign an informed consent that I understood what risks condom-free sex involved, spelling out graphically exactly what those risks included. There was no gray area. After that, it was up to me as an adult to speak with my partners one-to-one to make disclosures and to be certain they were consenting as well.

RR: You yourself have been in some HDK productions. Which ones? Tell me what the experience was like.

CA: My filmography includes Hole Hunters, Cum Hungry, Dungeon Fuck Party, Boy Butts, Barebacking Boys, Barebacking USA, and 100% Bareback Beef (HDK), and Bones For Cumpuppy (Treasure Island Media). Basically, I don't see myself as a porn actor. I'm just a regular guy who stepped up to the plate to realize some of his fantasies. All the films I've been in have been just that: real sex, real men, and minimal direction, just the real stuff. That's what real porn is made of—in my best estimation. I actually found Hot Desert Knights by sheer luck four years ago through www.barebackers.com when the site and the company were both in their infancy. I liked the underground seediness to it all, and knew that if ever I were to perform in porn, it would be for these guys. I wanted to see raw sex, unencumbered by barriers—something other than the glossy mainstream gay porn that was uninteresting to me—so naturally I wanted to perform that kind of sex as well. I was frustrated having to watch straight porn just to fulfill my fantasies for natural, rubberless sex. There was an obvious demand with limited supply. Now I'm excited about my new responsibilities behind the cameras, in the editing studio, and with our newest venture, www.MakingGayPorn.com .

Next week, Chad tells us what makes barebacking so hot and what a typical bareback shoot is like. If you'd like to have me e-mail you all the parts of this series, or just have a comment, e-mail me at jimmyfels@yahoo.com .
