A community of local activists, organizers, faith leaders and scholars will gather April in Chicago for a day-long participatory workshop rooted in art, relationship building, food, story and song.
The goal? Organizers state: "To imagine and plan, from the longing for love and justice that resides at the core of all our being, what it takes for one city to turn a desire to stand with and for each other across issue, faith, race and orientation INTO a concrete plan for action."
The Table to Action Project was developed at Auburn Seminary in partnership with leaders on the ground in Chicago, "who believe, with us, that it is time to press past transactional and competitive ways of working together in order to foster multi-issue organizing that allows us to stand with and for each other in honesty, compassion and love. Out of this desire the first event of the Table to Action Project took place on a frigid Wednesday evening in December at Chicago Theological Seminary. Over a table of delicious food, a soulful playlist and the heart-felt stories of longing for change of more than 50 leading Chicagoans, the community proclaimed together that from this table of fellowship and truth-telling something new will emerge," they state.
The local advisory team includes, the Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III, of Trinity UCC, Kim Hunt of Affinity Community Services, the Rev. Dr, Alice Hunt of Chicago Seminary, and Alie Kabba of the United African Organization.
Stephen Duncombe and Steve Lambert from the Center for Artistic Activism will facilitate a day that will be punctuated by not just 'thinking outside of the box,' but they will invite the community to dare to "bring a vision of the beloved community Chicago style to life before our very eyes."
