ORLANDO, Fla.—Rick Borucki has been a concierge here at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress, a five-star luxury resort, arguably the nicest hotel in this market. 'It's the only job that I've had in my life that I'd do for free,' he said.
Borucki's experience catering to others' needs has come home, truly.
In 1988, he opened Rick's Bed & Breakfast—at his home, of course.
Rick's is a beautiful, elegant, one-story, three-bedroom home that caters to the gay community—locals and mostly visitors. Borucki lives in one room, and offers the other two for rent throughout the year, attracting guests from Canada, Australia, England and across America.
Immaculately clean, with opulent and elegant furnishings, custom murals, new carpet, new flooring, new bedding and an amazing array of ornate fine art and collectibles from the Far East, Rick's is ideally located in central Florida. It is five miles from Sea World and the Orlando Convention Center, seven miles from Disney World, 15 miles from Universal Studios and downtown Orlando, and 18 miles from Orlando International Airport. In addition, Rick's is easily accessible from all major highways, including the Florida Turnpike.
'I was a little leery in the beginning,' said Borucki, 51, who feared being robbed. 'But everything has been great. I view my home as your home away from home.'
Rick's is a clothing-optional home, with a private, secluded garden—ideal for nude sunbathing. There is no pool on the property, though use of a public pool is within walking distance. Borucki plans to add a hot tub on site, probably in 2008.
Borucki said a 'big segment' of his customers are attracted to the clothing-optional element.
So far, he's received e-mails about the home from as far away as China, Brazil and Italy. Rick's has welcomed visitors from 21 to 80, though the average age is 30 to 45, and most are professional businessmen. Some are bisexual, Borucki said. And he's even welcomed a master and his slave, 'and all I heard was whipping in the bedroom all day,' Borucki said, laughing
Borucki welcomes singles and couples.
The home has wireless Internet throughout and a wide variety of videos, from G to XXX. Rick's has welcomed gay couples and their children in the past, and the children get their own room at no additional cost, he said.
He offers a cooked-to-order breakfast and use of his well-stocked kitchen.
Nightly room rates range from $125 to $175, and visitors usually stay from three to seven nights.
Rick's also offers a variety of massage options—in his home or out—including a Taoist massage, the harmonized balance of mind, body and spirit. Borucki massages start at $100 an hour.
Rick's is the intimate pink house in a residential neighborhood. Yes, it is pink, but not because the owner and the vast majority of his visitors are gay. 'When the house was built, [ the outside ] was brown, and I hated how it looked. And, I always wanted a pink house, though I made absolutely no connection to being gay,' he said.
