A Red Orchid Theatre is running Jen Silverman's The Moors, directed by Artistic Director and Ensemble Member Kirsten Fitzgerald, through Feb. 27 at A Red Orchid Theatre, 1531 N. Wells St.
The plot is as follows: On the wind-blown, desolate moors, two sisters and their mastiff scheme to wrest their destinies from the systems and the savage land around them. A governess is summoned and a moorhen drops in, forcing all to ask what price they might pay for autonomy and for love. Inspired (perhaps) by certain 19th-century gothic romances and the sisters who wrote them, this comedy aims to disrupt the conventions of status and visibility.
The production features ensemble members Karen Aldridge (Agatha), Jennifer Engstrom (Marjory), Dado (A Moorhen), and Guy Van Swearingen (The Mastiff), with Christina Gorman (Huldey) and Audrey Billings (Emilie).
