According to Kankakee police, while riding on the bus, the student was taunted by the bus driver and called 'gay.' Police said the driver also encouraged other students to chase and beat the child when he got off the bus, and supposedly joined in on the chase and attack.
The Daily Journal reported that Russell Schmalz, 46, was arrested and charged with mob action, endangering the life of a child and battery. Police are investigating other allegations, as well.
According to the Bourbonnais School District, the bus driver was fired.
