DES PLAINES, IL Organizers of Heartland Health Outreach's ( HHO ) 18th Annual Strike Out Hunger were bowled over by the generosity displayed by event attendees on January 31, 2015. In conjunction with the 9-12 Bowling League, this year's event netted more than $7,000 in support of the Vital Bridges Center on Chronic Care program.
More than 150 people trekked out to River Rand Bowl in Des Plaines for a night of bowling and fun, despite the threat of a blizzard. Throughout the course of the evening, guests enjoyed bowling games, such as bowling bingo and crazy cosmic bowling, and Wa-Pa-Ghetti's pizza. They also took their chances on raffle prizes, which included Blackhawks tickets donated by members of the Waveland Bowling League and a stay at Lower Dover Field Station & Jungle Lodge in Belize. Event sponsors included Randstad Pharma, Sterling Bay Companies, and Vicki MacKinnon with the Pic Vic Group.
Throughout its history, Heartland Health Outreach has partnered with community groups and organizations to raise critical funds for its HIV/AIDS services. Since its inception, Strike Out Hunger has raised more than $90,000. This support has helped provide compassionate programming to more than 1,200 low-income men, women, and children impacted by HIV and AIDS each year, including food, nutrition counseling, housing and case management.
