This is the 2nd anniversary of Nightspots – under the name Nightspots – and the 3rd issue of our new glossy format. Thanks to everyone out there in ReaderLand who phoned, and sent e.mails, about our Halloween issue. They were flying off the shelves and the bars were running out of copies all week. In several bars they were gone on the night we delivered them.

JJJ

Went up to Star Gaze to see Flow, their regular open mic night, and was really impressed with Bernadette and Amanda, who I think – and don't quote me on this – are running the show up there. This poetry and spoken word night is every Tuesday 10-11 p.m.

JJJ

Even though I got there late – due to an out-of-control schedule, and a couple of half-crazed bitches I need to slap around – the Barony show at Star Gaze was stunning by all accounts. Sierra looked fabulous. See pix inside.

JJJ

It's been a busy week at Star Gaze. Artist Samantha Hamilton recently opened an exhibition of her photographs there, and I was very impressed. So impressed, in fact, that I've asked her to do a cover for Nightspots. Go visit her website at www.GetSamArt.com

The T-shirts are really, really cool.

The Boofont Sisters performed at Touché for the bar's 26th Anniversary party and were lots of fun. "Don't Cry For Me Touché" being a crowd-pleaser.

Congratulations to Chuck for running one of my favorite places to hang out. It's got a lot to do with the staff, who really are a fun bunch of guys. I thought Rob looked particularly delicious …

JJJ Oh God! Halloween!! By 9 p.m. Halsted Street was looking particularly UGLEEE with some over-served partygoers. I managed to drag myself to a few bars … Bobby Love's went pumpkin crazy … Connie and the girls did a wonderful Hocus Pocus routine at Charlie's … Dan in the Annex was probably the scariest person I saw all night. I mean, he actually looks like a priest. I was almost dropping to my knees for a communion wafer. Hi JJ!

And Scot's was just all-out madness. Now, there's a hot bar with a great crowd of regulars, and it's my local bar, too.

I bumped into everybody on the street. Toots Lorraine went glitter, and the Fashion Police were out again. Hi Tim and Mike!

However, the highlight of my Halloween night was joining Jerry and the guys down at the Manhandler for their annual FleshFest. I've heard about FleshFest over the years, but this was my time – you could say I was losing my virginity. It was outrageous. I loved it. I wish they had more events like that at the Manhandler …

Come on Jerry, I'm sure if you put your mind to it.

JJJ

I actually performed at the open mic at Jackhammer hosted by MusicBear … all the way from Indiana. Have you heard his CD? It was a great night of talent … and then there was me, of course.

Kevin Bernal said he taped me reading a poem about my passion for sexual gratification with the deceased … I don't think I'll be invited to read there again. Ha!

The very cool Lars was performing there, too.

JJJ

It probably won't be in this issue, but I recently photographed Carlos Morales at Madrigals. Great bar with really hot guys. Carlos was just adorable and totally camera-friendly. Go visit his website at www.carlos-morales.com
