Senior Cup Softball

'Senior Cup 2004' will soon be here. This year the 5th annual 12' softball tournament for athletes 40 years of age and older will be held on Sept. 11-12 at Waveland Park.

Returning champions Sidetrack Seniors and St. Louis AFS will be defending their title from teams coming from San Jose, Ft. Lauderdale, Dallas, Cleveland, Atlanta and Chicago.

Sponsored by Chicago MSA, the tournament has grown each year from seven teams in the charter tourney to 15 this year.

Individual players must be 40 years of age on or prior to Sept. 11, 2004 and can join by contacting Joe Dimartino at jpdimartino@comcast.net .

Chicago Gay Games Seeks Board Members

From July 15-22, 2006, Chicago will play host to the world and welcome thousands of athletes, spectators and cultural participants for the Gay Games VII Sports and Cultural Festival. The Games will feature 12,000 international participants, competition in 30 sports, world-class athletes and artists, band and choral performances, nightly medal ceremonies, an arts festival, parties, and spectacular opening and closing ceremonies featuring entertainment, pageantry, and the parade of participants from more than 70 countries.

Chicago Games, Inc., organizer of Gay Games VII, is seeking new Board members. Experience or background in corporate travel, foundations, corporate fundraising, donors, band or choral, culture, logistics, healthcare or planning and production of large scale events is desired. Candidates should also support the Gay Games principals of diversity and gender parity.

Nominees must meet the minimum requirements for service on the Board of Directors contained in the organization's bylaws and shall possess the highest personal and professional ethics, integrity and values. Each nominee shall have demonstrated effective leadership and sound judgment in his or her professional life. Board service includes personal financial obligations and significant time commitment, including attendance at once-per-month board meetings in Chicago.

Pro-Choice Ride

Choice Cycle '73 needs riders and supporters for the Sunday, Sept. 12 ride.

'We are beginning at the Evanston Ecology Center for breakfast and a great kick-off,' said Personal PAC Executive Director Terry Cosgrove. 'We will ride beautiful bike paths 23 miles north to the Botanic Gardens where riders and supporters can enjoy a rest-stop and lunch. There will be bike-tech and volunteer support along the way and at the Gardens. From the Gardens, riders will have three choices (naturally): 1) Ride back to the Evanston Ecology Center, 2) Be driven back to the Evanston Ecology Center (bikes transported too), 3) Continue riding north and back to Evanston Ecology Center for those who want to ride up to and more than 73 miles.'

Rodeo is Coming

Cowboys and cowgirls from across the U.S. and Canada will convene in the Chicagoland area Aug. 27-29 to participate in Windy City Rodeo 2004, the 8th annual Bud Light/IGRA rodeo hosted by the Illinois Gay Rodeo Association. Proceeds from the rodeo will benefit three local charities: Howard Brown Health Center, Vital Bridges, and GLSEN Chicago.

The rodeo will be held at 6 Guns Ranch & Arena at 26926 South Stateline Road in Crete, Ill. (approximately 45 minutes south of downtown Chicago). Admission is $10 per person per day, and tickets may be purchased at the gate. Parking is free. The rodeo is a rain or shine event. The host hotel for Windy City Rodeo 2004 is the Radisson Hotel in Alsip, 5000 W. 127th St.

Shuttle busses to the rodeo grounds in Crete are being organized by a number of local sponsors.
