Swedish, British athletes come out
In Sweden, footballer Anton Hysen has come out of the closet, On Top Magazine reported. Hysen, 20, told the magazine Offside that it was "fucked up" that no other Swedish player had done the same. "I am a footballer. And gay. If I perform as a footballer, then I do not think it matters if I like girls or boys," he said.
Hysen's announcement came just weeks after British cricket player Steven Davies, 24, became the first professional athlete in his sport to come out of the closet while still playing, according to AfterElton.com . Davies, who has been called to play on the Ashes tour to Australia, said, "This is the right time for me. ... I feel it is right to be out in the open about my sexuality." Davies came out to his family five years ago and said that everyone has been completely supportive.
