Pride Day at Wrigley to benefit Chicago charities
CHICAGOWindy City Times will present Pride Day at Wrigley Field Sunday, Sept. 4, at 1:20 p.m., when the Chicago Cubs take on the Pittsburgh Pirates. The sales of tickets for the Labor Day weekend game will benefit six local LGBT and AIDS charities.
Pride Day is presented in partnership with the national gay softball world series taking place through Sept. 3 in the Windy City. Thousands of athletes will be in Chicago as part of the annual North American Gay Amateur Athletic Association (NAGAAA) world series tournament.
The organizations that will receive a portion of the proceeds are: AIDS Foundation of Chicago, Center on Halsted, Equality Illinois, Howard Brown Health Center/Lesbian Community Care Project, GLAAD Chicago Leadership Council and Lambda Legal.
The media partners for Pride Day at Wrigley are Windy City Times, Nightspots, GoPride and Grab Magazine.
The winner of the Windy City Gay Idol contest will be given the chance to sing at Pride Day, and the NAGAAA world series Chicago host committee will select a person to throw out the ceremonial pitch for the Sept. 4 game.
Tickets are $50, and they are all for bleacher seats. The price includes tax, shipping and a portion donated to charity. Deadline for ticket purchase is Aug. 15.

Chicago Marathon filled in 31 days
Registration for the 2011 Chicago Marathonwhich won't take place until Oct. 9has already hit 45,000 participants and has closed after 31 days, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
This is the fastest the marathon has hit the registration maximum.
The Bank of America Chicago Marathon has also announced that, for the 2010 event, participants collected a record $12 million in charitable donations.
Renée Richards film part of ESPN movie fest
The fifth annual Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival will include the world premiere of Renée, a documentary exploring the story of Renée Richards, the first transgender tennis player to compete in the women's U.S. Open, according to a press release.
Directed by Eric Drath, Renée is full of rare archival footage and interviews with close friends and family members as well as tennis legends Martina Navratilova, John McEnroe and Billie Jean King.
The Tribeca/ESPN Sports Film Festival runs during the Tribeca Film Festival (April 20-May 1) in lower Manhattan.
