The volleyball was pink—naturally—and the play was, well, entertaining, to say the least.
Four volleyball teams competed Saturday, Sept. 6, at a private beach along Lake Michigan in Rogers Park at the inaugural Spike'd, a benefit for Chicago House. About 150 watched and more than $4,000 was raised for Chicago House, which provides housing and supportive services for people living with HIV and AIDS.
'It definitely was an enjoyable event,' said Jeremy Hilborn, manager of special events for Chicago House. 'The money that comes in from an event like this helps allow us to continue doing new work in new areas.' Spike'd was the brainchild of Chicagoans Paul Trout and Andrew Edeker, and planning has been a three-month process, Hilborn said.
The Daises of Hazard came in first place, defeating the Wonder-Whores in the finals. The White Trash Hookers claimed first place in the Best Dressed category, after collecting a team-high $309 in tips/donations from spectators. Photos and text by Ross Forman
