On April 7, the Chicago Cubs started their season the right waywith a 5-4 win over the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field.
The Cubs' Ian Happ had three hits, including a tie-breaking two-run double in the seventh inning, per ESPN. Nico Hoerner hit a two-run homer and Kyle Hendricks pitched neatly into the sixth.
Seiya Suzuki got his first career hit in the fifth inning, when he connected with a slider from Brewers ace Corbin Burnes. Over four plate appearances, Suzuki (who signed a five-year, $85-million contract with the Cubs) drew a pair of walks and saw 19 pitches.
The two teams will play again Friday, April 8, as Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff and Cubs left-hander Justin Steele start. The teams will also play each other at Wrigley Field on Saturday and Sunday, April 9-10.
In the Seattle Kraken's (23-42-6) first-ever visit to the United Center, the team beat the Chicago Blackhawks (24-36-11) 2-0 on April 7.
Kevin Lankinen made 29 saves on the night, including 17 in a scoreless opening frame before the visitors got on the board.
With the loss, the Blackhawks were mathematically eliminated from the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs.
Chicago will next host the Dallas Stars on Sunday, April 10.
