The fall season means many things but, to theatergoers, it signifies one thing: new line-ups with exciting shows. Below is just what a few companies are offering late this year and into 2008:

Apple Tree Theatre in Highland Park will celebrate 25 years with such productions as Twilight of the Golds ( Oct. 20-Nov. 11 ) , The Mistress Cycle ( Dec. 15-Jan. 5 ) and Match ( March 15-April 6 ) . Subscriptions are $140-$165; see www.appletreetheatre.com .

Chicago Shakespeare Theatre's three-play subscription series covers Cymbeline ( running through Nov. 11 ) , Othello ( Feb. 3-April 6 ) and The Comedy of Errors ( April 27-June 29 ) . Subscriptions run $120-$198; see www.chicagoshakes.com or call 312-595-5600.

The Goodman Theatre's Albert Theatre offerings include the critically-acclaimed Passion Play ( running through Oct. 21 ) , Shining City ( Jan. 12-Feb. 17 ) , Trip to Bountiful ( March 1-April 6 ) , The Ballad of Emmett Till ( April 26-June 1 ) and The Boys are Coming Home ( June 21-July 27 ) .
