Openly gay Chicago Public Schools ( CPS ) CEO Ron Huberman plans on stepping down from his post Nov. 29, according to a report from WBEZ.
Huberman will have served less than two years in the position.
In a statement, he said that he wants to spend more time with his family.
Recently, the Chicago Sun-Times had reported that Huberman was going to leave his $230,000-a-year post. However, he denied that rumor to reporters, adding that he did not know how things would stand with Mayor Richard Daley's successor.
In a Nov. 3 e-mail to colleagues, Huberman said, "I wanted to take a moment to let you know what a privilege it has been to serve you, our students, their families, and our school communities.
"Over the last two years at CPS, I've had the honor and privilege to meetand to work alongsidesome of the most talented, thoughtful and dynamic people I have met in my career. I have also had the unique opportunity to engage with CPS students, an opportunity that is rare and special.
"Many of you are concerned about next steps in terms of leadership at CPS. The district will be in good hands. I expect Mayor Daley to appoint a replacement soon, and I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition to new leadership."
Huberman has previously served with the Chicago Police Department and the Office of Emergency Management and Communications. He was also Daley's chief of staff during 2005-07 and headed the Chicago Transit Authority before taking the CPS post.
