San Francisco, CA (January 5, 2012) -- Christie Herring, an award-winning independent filmmaker, sets her sights on election year 2012 with the release of a new, extended trailer and fundraising for THE CAMPAIGN. THE CAMPAIGN is a feature documentary following the fight to stop Proposition 8 with a cast of inspiring activists. The team behind THE CAMPAIGN is working hard to get it to audiences before the November 2012 elections.

We've launched an online crowdfunding page on the site IndieGoGo. This effort is CRITICAL in helping us complete the film for Election Season 2012. This $11,000 goal on IndieGoGo is a crucial step in our goal to raise $50,000 to complete the film. With $8000 raised, we are well on our way!

Heartbreaking and inspiring, THE CAMPAIGN is a human drama, following ordinary people compelled by passionate belief in equality to go far beyond their everyday selves. They are caught in the political firestorm of one of the largest social issue campaign the US has ever seen, the campaign to defeat California's Proposition 8 and to defend same-sex marriage. With exclusive access to the statewide headquarters of "No on 8," the story tracks activists on the inside through emotional battles to protect their families, their rights, and their dignity. They learn that growing social acceptance does not always translate into votes, but that participating in the political process transforms them, win or lose.

Why IndieGogo and Why Now?

IndieGoGo is a crowdfunding site and essentially, the idea is grassroots: if a lot of people donate a little to something they're moved by, it makes a BIG impact. All donations are tax-deductible through our fiscal sponsor the San Francisco Film Society.

The passage of Proposition 8 in what many considered our nation's most LGBT-friendly state was a wake up call to those who felt the LGBT rights movement was moving inevitably in one direction. It simply changed the conversation. With up to 5 more bans on ballots next year, our goal is to complete THE CAMPAIGN and begin community engagement screenings in 2012, rolling out distribution and outreach prior to the election season. To do that, we need your help to get back into the editing room immediately. Even before the film is completed, we're already part of the efforts of Working Films in North Carolina's ballot race through REEL EQUALITY. REEL EQUALITY: https://www.facebook.com/reelequality
