Pride LawChicago's legal aid clinic and resource center, focused on the needs of the LGBT community, will open its doors in the heart of Andersonville Aug. 1, 2011.
Pride Law is being established by Betty Tsamis, a Chicago lawyer and the founder of the Tsamis Law Firm. Betty Tsamis and Tsamis Law Firm have represented the LGBT community in numerous legal areas for several years. Tsamis has worked on legal matters that have received wide media attention in Illinois and Colorado, resulting in successful resolution of those matters for her clients.
Pride Law will offer a no-cost legal clinic once a week, initially. Through its website, Pride Law will offer access to various legal resources to assist those representing themselves. Additionally, Pride Law will accept a number of cases on a pro bono and/or reduced fee basis.
"Our mission is to provide a place where LGBT people can feel safe and secure having their legal interests represented, regardless of their ability to pay," said Betty Tsamis. "We do not seek to take away from any of the wonderful organizations that represent the legal interests of LGBT people. We simply seek to supplement what is already available and want to provide a legal aid clinic in the Andersonville community, where so many members of the LGBT community live, work, play, and visit."
